Device limits
Discourage account sharing by capping how many devices each student can be signed in on.
On this page
Go to School settings → Content protection to set how many devices each student can be signed in on at the same time. Leave blank for no limit.
What happens over the limit
A student signing in on a new device can always use it; if that puts them over the limit, their least recently used device is signed out automatically. The signed-out device shows an explanation with a "Log in again" button that brings them back — which in turn signs out their next least recently used device.
This is the same approach Teachify and LearnWorlds take: it stops several people using one account at the same time, but it can't stop people taking turns. When a student switches phones they don't need you — they just log in again.
Details
- A signed-out device isn't cut off instantly; it's blocked on its next page change, or the next time a video renews its playback authorization.
- Devices unused for 30 days don't count.
- Raising the limit later doesn't bring an already signed-out device back — the student just logs in again on it. Turning the limit off entirely (leaving it blank) does restore signed-out devices.
- Owners and instructors are never limited.
