Using a homepage template
Pick a fully designed homepage, save it as a draft, swap the sample content for yours, then make it your homepage.
On this page
Homepage templates are four complete homepages: academic tutoring, writing & humanities, fitness & sport, and kids & crafts. Each comes with a full layout, sample copy, stock photos and a matching site theme, so all you have to do is replace the content with your own.
Go to Website → Pages and click Homepage templates in the top right.
Look around an example school first
Each of the four templates has a real example school you can open from the Example schools section of the Teachvix homepage: homepage, course sales page, free preview lesson and FAQ are all done, so what you see is what you get after applying the template. The teachers, courses and prices are fictional, you can only browse (no buying or signing up), and for now they are in Traditional Chinese only.
Click Open a school from this template in the strip at the top of an example school, or in the homepage section, to open a new school from that template. At sign-up the template is saved as a homepage draft, and your first login takes you straight into the draft's editor. The template checkbox is ticked for you; untick it to skip the template.
Preview first, then apply
- Hover over a template's thumbnail and it scrolls down to show the whole page.
- Preview opens the template in a new tab, inside your school's own header and footer.
- When you've decided, click Use as draft.
Applying a template never touches your current homepage. It's saved as a Homepage draft first: visitors can't see it, and it doesn't count toward your custom page limit.
Replace the sample content with yours
You land straight in the draft's editor, which works like any other page (see "Building custom pages").
- Anything that looks like a fact, such as numbers, credentials or student testimonials, is marked Sample.
- Once you actually change a block's content, its marker disappears. Saving without changing anything keeps it.
- The list at the top of the draft's editor shows which sample content and sample photos are still in place, for example "Section 5 · Image".
The list is only a reminder and never stops you from going live. Sample testimonials and numbers are made up, so replace or delete them before you publish.
If you haven't published a course yet, the course section shows sample course cards in the preview. Your live homepage never shows them; it shows "No courses published yet" instead.
Set as homepage
When you're ready, click Set as homepage in the draft's editor:
- Visitors see the new homepage straight away.
- Your site theme switches to the template's theme. To change it back, go to Website settings → Look.
- Your old homepage isn't deleted. It's kept as Previous homepage, and clicking Set as homepage in its editor switches back.
Switch templates or delete the draft
- If you already have a homepage draft, applying another template asks you to confirm first. The current draft is saved to Version history before it's replaced, so you can restore it from the bottom of the draft's editor.
- Don't want the draft any more? Click Delete draft. Your live homepage isn't affected.
Simple layouts
Simple layouts, further down the same page, are section structures without sample content, and they change your live homepage directly. If you already have a homepage, its current content is saved to Version history first.
